Samuel Der-Yeghiayan

Samuek Der-Yeghiayan is a Federal (Article III) Judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois one of the busisest Federal Courts in the nation.
Early Life and Education
A native of Spain, Der-Yeghiayan was a graduate of Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri with a Bachelor's Degree in 1975 and a juris doctoral degree from Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire in 1978[1].
Legal Career
Der-Yeghiayan has immigration experience which has been a building block towards his path to the Federal Bench and representing a very, ethnically diverse district. Der-Yeghiayan has served with the Immigration and Naturalization Service as an attorney representing the INS from 1978 to 2000 and also served as acting district director with the INS from 1986 to 1987[2]. From 2000 to 2003, Der-Yeghiayan was a a sitting judge in the Executive Office for Immigration Review in the US Department of Justice.
Federal Judicary Career
On the reccomendation of Senator Peter Fitzgerald, Der-Yeghiayan was nominated by President George W. Bush on March 5, 2003 to a seat vacated by Marvin Aspen. Aspen was confirmed by the Senate on July 14, 2003, and received commission on July 15, 2003 [3].
