Judicial selection in Connecticut
From Judgepedia
All justices in Connecticut are initially selected, and retained, via merit selection--as opposed to other popular methods including partisan and non-partisan elections, gubernatorial appointments and legislative appointments.[1] This merit plan was adopted in 1986.[2]

Merit Plan
According to the plan, the judicial selection commission recommends qualified candidates to the governor for nomination. The governor's nominee must then be appointed by the general assembly. [3]
Terms
Judges serve eight-year terms and must be renominated and reappointed. The judicial selection commission also evaluates incumbent judges who seek reappointment.
